One of the most common questions we get from the families of our residents is “How can I better support or care for my senior loved ones?” It’s a great question with lots of equally great answers. However, the one answer we find that our residents agree on the most is to simply receive the gift of time! Here at Cedar Hill, we always welcome families to come visit our residents whenever they’d like. Whether it’s to take part in one of our scheduled programs or events or just to say hello, spending time with your loved ones is invaluable.
If you’re looking for fun ways to enjoy your next visit to your senior at Cedar Hill , here are a few ideas!
Cedar Hill is proud to be a pet-friendly senior living community, allowing residents to keep their furry friends with them while they stay with us. Of course, you’re welcome to bring your pets with you when you come to visit!
Interacting with an animal like a dog or cat is a great way to lower your blood pressure, helping you to relax and deal with stress. Getting to interact with a pet also improves your mood. Pets act as a great way to create social connections, as people want to engage with the animal as much as they want to engage with the person with the animal.
We do a great job of getting our residents out and about for adventures around Windsor and Vermont, but who doesn’t love an opportunity to get out and see something new? Taking a loved one out, be it for a meal, a trip to the store, or a favorite park, is a great way to spend some quality time together.
You can ask your senior where they would like to go, or you can pick the destination yourself. In some cases, they might have a specific place in mind, or they’ll just enjoy the trip to wherever you take them!
Everyone loves music! When you come to visit, bring a few of your loved one’s favorite records and albums along and listen to them. We connect memories to music very closely, so listening to a favorite song could be a great way to learn more about their experiences. Once you’ve listened to a few of their favorites, share a few of your own. You never know what they might like! Music is an easy way to put anyone in a good mood, and help them feel engaged with everything around them.
Sharing a meal is one of the most time-honored ways to bring friends and family together, and some families really take pride in the tradition of cooking and baking together. When you visit your loved one here at Cedar Hill, you can make use of the kitchen in each room to craft a meal together. It’s a great chance to learn some treasured family recipes or to try something new entirely. While we have a world-class dining team here at our assisted living community, nothing quite compares to the tastes and aromas of a home-cooked meal.
You’re never too old for games! There are lots of great games out there to enjoy with your loved ones. You can bring timeless board games like Monopoly or any of the new ones that are in stores. Or bring some cards — it’s surprising how many games you can play with a deck of cards. There is also a myriad of online games that you can play. You choose from options that your senior already knows and loves or find a new game for both of you to learn together!
For more than 30 years, Cedar Hill has been Vermont’s leading choice for quality independent and assisted senior living. We value creating strong community ties between residents, their families, and our care providers. We invite you to learn more about our living options , our services , and all of the upcoming events on our social calendar . If you feel that your senior loved one would enjoy their time at Cedar Hill, schedule a free tour of our beautifully manicured campus in historic Windsor.
